SOCIAL PROGRAMME

Rovaniemi is a cultural city and one of the most popular tourist cities in Finland with a long tradition and wide experience in arranging social events for visitors. Living in the cold, sometimes in Arctic conditions with four very different seasons and surrounding wilderness, favours the formation of a strong and unique culture that sometimes has magical features. The influence of Sámi culture is also strongly present in traditions.

The social programme will emphasize Northern traditions, wilderness and Santa Claus. The programme will give participants and the persons accompanying them the opportunity to enjoy excellent artistic and entertaining shows in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.



Conference Social Programme

Get-together Party
Sunday 21 August at 19-21

This casual evening will be arranged at the Restaurant Valdemari by the riverside, just opposite to the Hotel Pohjanhovi (Jäämerentie 9), about 500 m across the Jätkänkynttilä bridge. Something to eat and drink, live music, dancing, meeting old friends and making new ones. Advance registration is required. No transfer provided.

Welcome Reception
Monday 22 August at 18-20

The Welcome Reception will be arranged at the conference venue, in the main lobby where also the conference exhibition is located. Advance registration is required. Bus transfer to the conference hotels after the reception will be provided. The reception will include a light meal with drinks.

Concert and Rovaniemi City Reception
Tuesday 23 August at 19-

Tuesday evening will start with a chamber music concert at the Rovaniemi church and continue with the Rovaniemi City Reception at the City Hall. The evening will include a light meal with drinks. The Rovaniemi City Hall is at walking distance from the church, no bus transfer. Advance registration is required.

NEW! Pub Night
Wednesday 24 August at 20-22

SGS Minerals Services sponsors a Pub Night for all conference participants and accompanying persons. The venue is Hemingways (Koskikatu 11) located in the city centre opposite to Santa’s Hotel Santa Claus. Free beer or wine at 20-22! No advance registration.

Official Dinner
Thursday 25 August at 20-

The Official Dinner will take place at the panoramic Restaurant Sky Ounasvaara renowned as one of the best in Finland. The Restaurant Sky Ounasvaara is located on top of the Ounasvaara fell. The evening will include a served dinner with drinks. Advance registration is required. Bus transfer from/to the conference hotels will be provided.
